«Monad può gestire il picco di transazioni del Black Friday, e anche oltre»

Abbiamo incontrato Joanita Titan a Hong Kong, a margine di Consensus, la conferenza dedicata agli asset digitali. Con base a New York, questa ex Vice President di JP Morgan Private Bank guida oggi la crescita istituzionale di Monad, una blockchain layer 1 emergente e in cantiere da anni. L'obiettivo è permettere a una piattaforma di smart contract come Ethereum di funzionare alla velocità richiesta dai volumi di transazioni del mondo reale. Co-fondata da Keone Hon, Eunice Giarta e James Hunsaker, questa rete ha raccolto oltre 240 milioni di dollari dal venture capital e ha portato a termine la prima vendita di token mai ospitata da Coinbase. Alla fine del 2025 quella vendita ha raccolto altri 269 milioni di dollari presso gli investitori retail.

Quando questa intervista è stata registrata, la mainnet di Monad era appena stata lanciata. L'andamento del prezzo del suo token nativo (MON) è stato penalizzato, come è successo a quasi tutti gli altri asset digitali in un 2026 difficile, ma l'attività sulla rete ha continuato a crescere: lo dicono i 720 milioni di dollari di valore che circolano nelle sue applicazioni ad agosto 2026, in aumento del 720% da inizio anno.

Concentrandosi sulle istituzioni, Monad potrebbe essere una delle poche realtà in grado di scardinare un settore popolato di reti ormai morte e dominato da una manciata di blockchain. Solo il tempo lo dirà, ma per The Node era importante discutere del potenziale di questa nuova rete.

The Node: che cosa l'ha portata, personalmente, agli asset digitali?

Joanita Titan: Ho sentito parlare di Bitcoin nel 2012 e all'epoca mi era sembrato molto interessante. Sono cresciuta in paesi emergenti, quindi ho visto in prima persona che cosa può fare l'iperinflazione alle famiglie e alle persone, il suo impatto reale. L'idea di Bitcoin era affascinante. Mi ricordo di aver pensato: il denaro è una costruzione sociale, ha valore perché tutti insieme siamo d'accordo che ce l'abbia.

Ho continuato a seguirne lo sviluppo e nel 2017 e nel 2018 ho avuto l'occasione di guardarci dentro più a fondo. Andava ancora a ondate, su e giù, ma stava arrivando a una fase più stabile e molto più accettata. Nel 2020 mi si è presentata la possibilità di passare dal mondo della TradFi alle criptovalute, e l'ho presa. Oggi sono head of institutional growth alla Monad Foundation. Prima ero in FalconX, una delle più grandi società di trading di asset digitali, dove ho costruito l'attività di custodia e di staking, e prima ancora in Anchorage Digital, a sviluppare l'attività in Asia. Quindi, in un certo senso, essere qui a Hong Kong è un po' un ritorno a casa.

Come descriverebbe Monad?

Monad è una blockchain layer 1 ad alta capacità transazionale e a costi bassi. Assomiglia molto a Solana, molto veloce e molto economica, ma è costruita sull'EVM, il linguaggio di programmazione dominante. Questo sblocca molti dei casi d'uso ambiziosi di cui parliamo da anni nella blockchain. Una delle cose che mi hanno attirata verso Monad come progetto sono i tre co-fondatori, Keone Hon, Eunice Giarta e James Hunsaker, che vengono da percorsi molto solidi nella finanza. Keone e James si sono conosciuti in Jump Trading e lì guidavano dei team. È un team fondatore di altissimo calibro, e questo mi ha convinta.

Storicamente le blockchain pubbliche sono state usate soprattutto dal retail. Direbbe che Monad nasce prima di tutto per le istituzioni e per i grandi operatori?

Monad ha una capacità transazionale elevata e costi bassi, e questo la rende adatta alla finanza ad alta frequenza, alla negoziazione di asset ad alta rotazione come azioni, reddito fisso e materie prime, ma anche ai pagamenti e alle stablecoin. I pagamenti sono un caso d'uso chiarissimo, dove la blockchain risponde a una domanda di mercato reale. Negli Stati Uniti il volume di transazioni più alto si registra il Black Friday, con picchi che possono arrivare a 3.000 transazioni al secondo. Mettilo su Ethereum, che processa circa 12 transazioni al secondo, e salta tutto: congestione, gas fee alle stelle. Mettilo su Solana, che gestisce circa 2.000 transazioni al secondo, e salta comunque, perché siamo a 3.000. Mettilo su Monad, e il Black Friday, con il suo picco giornaliero, lo sosteniamo senza problemi, con ancora molto spazio nei blocchi per tutto il resto dell'ecosistema, DeFi, mercati predittivi, gaming. Siamo molto concentrati sui casi d'uso istituzionali, dai pagamenti e dalle stablecoin alla negoziazione di asset finanziari sulla blockchain.

Attrarre liquidità su un layer 1 è sempre una sfida, e la concorrenza è forte. Come farete ad attrarre operatori e liquidità su Monad?

La frammentazione della liquidità è un problema reale, e la blockchain più liquida è ovviamente Ethereum. Proprio per questo, per Monad essere compatibile con l'EVM è stato decisivo. Ed è anche il motivo per cui i fondatori sono arrivati alla conclusione che servisse una blockchain ad alta capacità transazionale e compatibile con l'EVM. Così non ci si lega a un unico fornitore. In Ethereum c'è già così tanta liquidità che una blockchain compatibile con l'EVM aiuta a sbloccarla, e i trasferimenti diventano molto più semplici.

Monad ha ricevuto critiche per la sua tokenomics e per essere finanziata da molti fondi di venture capital. Come risponde? E le sembrano critiche fondate?

Quando costruisci qualcosa, le critiche ci sono sempre. Io la vedo così. Keone, James ed Eunice hanno fondato Monad e l'hanno costruita da zero, e non è un'impresa facile. Al team sono serviti tre anni, riga di codice dopo riga di codice. Oggi Category Labs è l'organizzazione indipendente che si occupa di mantenere e sviluppare Monad, e i suoi ingegneri conoscono quel sistema meglio di chiunque altro. Sanno esattamente come è costruito, e tutto questo richiede risorse.

Nella raccolta di Monad c'era molto interesse da parte del mondo del venture capital, perché vedeva il calibro dei fondatori. Ma guardiamo al lancio della mainnet a novembre: siamo stati il primo token con una vendita pubblica su Coinbase, ed era la prima vendita di token di Coinbase in assoluto. Perché? Perché volevamo che anche il retail avesse accesso, e il punto d'ingresso era più basso di quello degli investitori di venture capital. La domanda ha superato l'offerta e siamo arrivati a oltre 85.000 investitori individuali in più di 70 paesi. È una delle vendite pubbliche di token di maggior successo di sempre. Le critiche non mancano mai, soprattutto su crypto Twitter. Ma se si guarda a quanto è arrivata lontano Monad, abbiamo cercato davvero di ragionare sulla distribuzione, dando al retail e agli investitori un buon punto d'ingresso e assicurandoci che fosse distribuita ampiamente.

Che cosa dobbiamo aspettarci dall'ecosistema Monad nei prossimi mesi e nei prossimi anni?

Sul fronte dell'ecosistema siamo molto concentrati sulla crescita della DeFi, e c'è molto sviluppo nei mercati predittivi e nell'intelligenza artificiale. Grazie alla velocità e ai costi bassi, Monad si presta bene ai casi d'uso legati all'AI e ai pagamenti eseguiti da agenti autonomi. Sul lato istituzionale siamo concentrati su pagamenti e stablecoin, e su RWA e tokenization. Monad si presta molto bene agli asset ad alta rotazione e alla loro negoziazione, così come a darli e prenderli a prestito. Siamo molto motivati a continuare a crescere.

La tokenization è un tema molto forte in questo momento, soprattutto per le materie prime e per gli asset del mondo reale. Come si sta muovendo Monad su questo fronte?

Ne vediamo molta. Molti emittenti ci hanno detto di essere interessati a portare i propri asset sulla blockchain. Oggi il problema non è la mancanza di interesse da parte degli emittenti, è come risolvere la questione dell'utilizzo concreto e della distribuzione di questi asset. In Monad abbiamo un approccio proattivo: mettiamo intorno allo stesso tavolo gli allocatori di capitale interessati a questi asset, diamo loro un utilizzo concreto nel mercato dei prestiti e aiutiamo gli emittenti a risolvere il problema del collocamento su mercati che oggi, nella finanza tradizionale, non riescono a raggiungere. Diverse istituzioni hanno accolto molto bene questo modo di procedere: farlo insieme a loro, come partner nella progettazione, invece di costruire a tavolino. Alla fine, quello che serve davvero agli utenti su Monad è avere un posto dove poter negoziare, generare rendimento e investire negli asset dell'ecosistema.
