Le società di mining di Bitcoin rappresentano il cuore industriale della rete Bitcoin. Convertono elettricità e hardware informatico in nuovi Bitcoin di recente emissione, e le loro azioni sono negoziate su borse regolamentate. Questa combinazione le rende un canale distinto di esposizione a Bitcoin: un canale che vive all'interno dei mercati azionari tradizionali, anziché sull'infrastruttura crypto.

Perché le azioni legate al mining

I miner generano ricavi in Bitcoin, principalmente attraverso le ricompense di blocco, mentre sostengono la maggior parte dei costi – soprattutto elettricità e hardware – in valuta fiat. Questo crea una leva operativa. Quando Bitcoin si apprezza, i margini dei miner sono storicamente aumentati più del prezzo di Bitcoin stesso, poiché i ricavi crescono a fronte di una base di costi in gran parte fissa. Lo stesso meccanismo funziona in entrambe le direzioni: quando Bitcoin scende, i margini si comprimono più rapidamente del prezzo, e gli operatori più deboli possono trovarsi in difficoltà. Le azioni legate al mining vanno quindi intese come un'espressione amplificata e operativamente sensibile dell'esposizione a Bitcoin, non come un sostituto della detenzione diretta dell'asset.

Il settore che sta dietro a queste azioni è rilevante. L'hash rate della rete Bitcoin – la potenza di calcolo complessiva che la protegge – si attesta attualmente vicino a uno zettahash al secondo, con stime giornaliere degli ultimi 30 giorni comprese all'incirca tra 0,8 e 1,1 zettahash e una media a 30 giorni di circa 915 exahash al secondo.1 Nel complesso, i miner hanno guadagnato circa 849 milioni di dollari negli ultimi 30 giorni, di cui circa 33,4 milioni di dollari nella sola giornata del 19 luglio 2026, con le ricompense di blocco che rappresentano oltre il 99% di tali ricavi.2 Dopo l'halving dell'aprile 2024, il sussidio per blocco è pari a 3,125 BTC per blocco, e si dimezzerà nuovamente intorno al 2028. Ogni halving riduce la principale fonte di ricavi del settore, ed è proprio per questo che la qualità operativa, la disciplina sui costi e la solidità del bilancio contano così tanto nella selezione dei miner.

Anche il contesto macroeconomico è cambiato. L'approvazione degli ETF spot su Bitcoin negli Stati Uniti, la creazione di una Riserva Strategica di Bitcoin statunitense, il GENIUS Act sulle stablecoin, il regolamento MiCA in Europa e la crescita delle società di tesoreria in Bitcoin hanno spostato collettivamente Bitcoin dalla periferia della finanza verso il suo nucleo regolamentato. Le azioni legate al mining rappresentano lo strato industriale alla base di questo cambiamento.

Il CoinShares Bitcoin Mining Index, amministrato e calcolato da Solactive AG, non è una classifica per capitalizzazione di mercato dei miner che risultano semplicemente più grandi. I componenti sono ponderati utilizzando un punteggio di qualità CoinShares costruito su dieci anni di ricerca proprietaria sul mining, comprese visite sul campo presso gli operatori di mining.

Il punteggio valuta ciascuna società lungo cinque dimensioni. La prima è la scala e la crescita dell'hash rate impiegato, ovvero la capacità produttiva grezza che un miner porta alla rete. La seconda è la redditività e l'efficienza dei costi, misurata attraverso il costo di produzione per Bitcoin e il margine operativo, che determina chi sopravvive quando i margini si comprimono. La terza è la resilienza finanziaria: solidità del bilancio, liquidità e gestione del debito, ossia il cuscinetto che accompagna un miner attraverso i ribassi e gli halving. La quarta è l'efficienza ambientale, incentrata sulla quota di energia rinnovabile nel mix energetico di un miner. La quinta è la governance societaria, che comprende l'indipendenza del consiglio di amministrazione, la qualità della rendicontazione e l'allineamento con gli azionisti.

La concentrazione viene gestita tramite un limite massimo per singolo titolo del 18%, estendibile al 33% per il componente più grande solo in circostanze eccezionali. L'indice viene ribilanciato trimestralmente, in modo che i pesi vengano regolarmente aggiornati man mano che evolve il quadro qualitativo.

Dove si colloca

Per gli investitori che già detengono Bitcoin o un ETP su Bitcoin, MINE offre un'esposizione complementare, non duplicativa: esposizione azionaria agli operatori della rete, con la relativa leva operativa, le convenzioni proprie delle azioni quotate (informativa regolamentata, bilanci certificati, negoziazione in borsa) e i rischi specifici del settore che ne derivano. Per gli investitori limitati ai fondi azionari, offre un'esposizione collegata a Bitcoin all'interno di una struttura UCITS familiare.

Si tratta di un'esposizione settoriale concentrata e ad alta volatilità, che dovrebbe essere dimensionata di conseguenza all'interno di un portafoglio diversificato.
