Casi d’uso di Ethereum: come e perché dovrei utilizzare Ethereum?

Bitcoin potrà anche essere la criptovaluta più diffusa, ma Ethereum ha dato un contributo fondamentale all’innovazione del mondo digitale, introducendo funzionalità avanzate nella tecnologia blockchain. Essa costituisce la base di una nuova economia digitale, in cui denaro, proprietà e servizi operano su reti aperte anziché banche, imprese e governi. Altre ne hanno seguito le orme, ma Ethereum ha mantenuto il vantaggio del pioniere affermandosi come seconda blockchain più importante, con una capitalizzazione di mercato di 444 miliardi di euro (a settembre 2025). Quali sono i fattori che finora hanno contribuito al successo del protocollo?

Finanza programmabile

L’innovazione principale di Ethereum è rappresentata dagli smart contract, programmi che eseguono azioni automaticamente al verificarsi di determinate condizioni. Questi sono considerati le mattonelle delle applicazioni decentralizzate (dApp), permettendo agli utenti di interagire in modo diretto senza l’intervento di banche, intermediari o società di gestione dei pagamenti.

Questa tipologia di disintermediazione va oltre la praticità:

  • Pagamenti, trasferimenti e rimesse: chiunque abbia un portafoglio digitale (disponibile tramite un semplice smartphone) può inviare istantaneamente valore sotto forma di asset digitale in tutto il mondo, a una frazione dei costi normalmente applicati dalle aziende tradizionali di trasferimento di denaro. E non c’è bisogno di aspettare gli orari di apertura delle banche. 

  • Crediti: applicazioni come Aave, Compound e Morpho consentono di ottenere prestiti utilizzando le proprie criptovalute come garanzia e di concedere prestiti per guadagnare interessi, senza che siano necessari documenti o controlli sul credito. 

  • Negoziazione e investimenti: piattaforme come Uniswap e OpenSea consentono agli utenti di negoziare asset e acquistare oggetti da collezione tutti i giorni, 24 ore su 24, senza l’intervento di intermediari.

Use cases of Ethereum Questo tipo d’uso, già abbastanza diffuso (secondo The Block, ad agosto 2025 il volume delle transazioni sulla rete Ethereum ha raggiunto 320 miliardi di dollari), è destinato ad aumentare nel corso del tempo parallelamente alla crescita della tokenization di asset: la tokenization è la trasformazione di asset finanziari (debiti, titoli e persino immobili) o materie prime (come i metalli preziosi) in rappresentazioni digitali (token) negoziabili sulla blockchain. Le stablecoin come USDT e USDC (esempi di cripto-dollari) sono state il primo risultato di questa tendenza, seguite dall’oro tokenizzato (PAXG di Paxos e XAUT di Tether) e, prevedibilmente, da altri strumenti finanziari. 

I progetti McKinsey di tokenization degli asset reali (RWA) potrebbero valere 1.700 miliardi di euro entro il 2030. Tom Lee, managing partner di Fundstrat Global Advisors, ritiene che il vantaggio iniziale di Ethereum nella tokenization lo renda “la scelta privilegiata per Wall Street”. E non a caso piattaforme come Robinhood già permettono ai propri utenti di acquistare azioni tokenizzate sulla blockchain, a testimonianza di quanto questa tecnologia possa diventare mainstream.

Partecipare al nuovo Internet

Ethereum non consente solo di utilizzare le app, ma anche di possedere una parte dell’infrastruttura. Il vecchio Internet (Web2) è dominato da una manciata di piattaforme centralizzate che monetizzano i dati degli utenti. Ethereum, invece, è pensata per distribuire la proprietà e la governance fra i membri della sua community. Detenere ETH, il token nativo della rete, significa disporre del “carburante” che alimenta il sistema. E tramite lo staking (il meccanismo che rende la blockchain sicura), tutti possono contribuire alla sicurezza della rete e ottenere, in cambio, delle ricompense.

Contribuendo alla sicurezza del sistema, si riceverà una ricompensa fra il 3% e il 6%. Nonostante il metodo nativo richieda una soglia di staking elevata (l’equivalente in ETH di quasi 120.000 € a settembre 2025), molti fornitori di servizi rendono lo staking accessibile con pochi click, e senza un importo minimo. Questo sistema apre le porte anche ai piccoli investitori.

In pratica il singolo potrà beneficiare della crescita di un’infrastruttura mondiale di comunicazione e finanza utilizzata da società, gestori di asset, studi di videogame e piattaforme culturali.

Le fondamenta su cui si costruiscono le città

Il livello base di Ethereum attualmente elabora circa 20 transazioni al secondo (TPS). Un numero modesto rispetto alla richiesta globale, a cui si è cercato di dare una risposta con le reti Layer 2 (L2). La prima ondata di soluzioni, come Arbitrum, Optimism e Polygon, ha affrontato questo problema gestendo le transazioni sulle proprie reti per poi completarle su Ethereum. Oggi, nel complesso, queste reti elaborano oltre dieci volte il throughput di Ethereum.

Ma la storia ha preso una piega inattesa. Ciò che era nato come una soluzione tecnica per migliorare la scalabilità è diventato un movimento più ampio: le società e le istituzioni hanno cominciato a lanciare le proprie reti secondarie costruite su Ethereum per svolgere attività specifiche:

  • Base di Coinbase alimenta le attività di finanza decentralizzata (DeFi).

  • Soneium di Sony sviluppa i progetti di gaming e collezionismo.

  • Worldcoin, co-creato da Sam Altman di OpenAI, utilizza Ethereum come rete di riferimento per la verifica dell’identità.


Ethereum è diventato il livello di regolamento alla base di questo ecosistema in espansione. È il terreno su cui si costruiscono queste “città” digitali per proteggere le transazioni e le loro finalizzazione, nonché per garantire la fiducia nel sistema. Anche con la proliferazione di nuove reti, Ethereum rimane il punto di riferimento per sicurezza e finalità. In questo senso, Ethereum è meno un competitor delle altre blockchain e più un modello di riferimento per una nuova generazione di applicazioni finanziarie e consumer che operano sulla blockchain, spaziando dai pagamenti e dalle stablecoin fino alle piattaforme social e al gaming.

Perché Ethereum conta

Grazie alla combinazione di programmabilità, regolamento e proprietà, Ethereum sta dando vita a un’economia più aperta, efficiente e accessibile rispetto a quella dominata dagli intermediari di oggi. I suoi smart contract stanno già trasformando il mondo dei pagamenti, dei prestiti e della negoziazione, mentre il suo ruolo in forte crescita nella tokenization lo sta posizionando al centro del passaggio verso le rappresentazioni digitali degli asset reali.

Per gli investitori, Ethereum non rappresenta un semplice asset speculativo, ma una partecipazione nell’infrastruttura. Detenere ETH significa disporre del carburante che alimenta le applicazioni nei settori della finanza, del gaming, dell’identità e della cultura. Attraverso lo staking, offre anche un modo per generare rendimento contribuendo alla sicurezza della rete. Al contempo, l’affermarsi delle reti Layer-2 dimostra che l’influenza di Ethereum si estende ben oltre il suo throughput: rappresenta il livello di regolamento che sostiene un ecosistema in espansione di blockchain specializzate, iniziative aziendali e piattaforme consumer.

Questa convergenza fra tecnologia, adozione e riconoscimento istituzionale spiega perché Ethereum sia riuscita a mantenere la sua posizione di seconda blockchain per capitalizzazione di mercato e continui ad attrarre, indistintamente, sviluppatori, imprese e investitori. Con la crescita di un’economia tokenizzata e il progressivo spostamento dell’attività sulla blockchain, il vantaggio di pioniere di Ethereum, i suoi effetti di rete e la sua capacità di adattamento lo collocano in una posizione privilegiata per sfruttare questa crescita.
