Le altcoin sono passate dall’essere scommesse speculative di nicchia a componenti essenziali di un portafoglio di criptovalute diversificato. Soprattutto in Germania, gli investitori stanno dimostrando un interesse sempre maggiore nei confronti degli Exchange-Traded Product (ETP) che offrono esposizioni che vanno oltre Bitcoin.

Noi rimaniamo grandi sostenitori di Bitcoin, che continua a rappresentare la base dell’esposizione agli asset digitali, punto di riferimento per investitori privati e istituzionali. Ma con un’integrazione strategica di altcoin in portafoglio si possono incrementare i rendimenti senza accrescere il rischio in modo proporzionale, a patto che la composizione del portafoglio sia gestita con rigore e venga regolarmente ribilanciata.

Ad esempio, negli ultimi cinque anni, SOL (il token nativo di Solana) ha registrato rendimenti nettamente superiori a quelli di Bitcoin (oltre il 500% in più rispetto a Bitcoin). Le criptovalute diverse da Bitcoin (altcoin) non andrebbero sottovalutate. Tendono, infatti, a seguire la traiettoria di Bitcoin: quando la criptovaluta principale va bene, anche il resto del mercato tende a salire, quando invece Bitcoin registra un calo, le altcoin generalmente ne risentono ancora di più. Pertanto, esprimono il loro pieno potenziale in portafoglio solo attraverso un’oculata gestione.

Questa ripartizione degli investimenti rispecchia diverse valutazioni:

  • Bitcoin come punto di riferimento: rimane l’asset digitale più liquido e maggiormente adottato a livello istituzionale. Bitcoin è l’asset digitale più consolidato e diffuso e, pertanto, è spesso considerato come il punto focale di un portafoglio cripto. Sono poche le altcoin che nel tempo hanno fatto meglio di Bitcoin.

  • Ethereum per gli smart contract: il suo vasto ecosistema di applicazioni decentralizzate ne giustifica un investimento importante. Ethereum, come secondo asset digitale più diffuso, vanta uno storico di operatività comprovata del 100% ed è la piattaforma di criptovalute più supportata da istituzioni e sviluppatori.

  • Solana per la velocità e la scalabilità: il throughput elevato e le basse commissioni la rendono una scelta interessante per i pagamenti in stablecoin e per la DeFi. Nonostante qualche problema iniziale, Solana è riuscita a recuperare terreno e oggi è ampiamente adottata da istituzioni e sviluppatori.

  • XRP per l’efficienza transfrontaliera: ampiamente utilizzata per rimesse e pagamenti, XRP è una delle prime criptovalute ed è riuscita a creare una cospicua rete di sostenitori in tutto il mondo.

Questo mix bilanciato è il frutto di una filosofia: Bitcoin come asset di riferimento, affiancato da altcoin accuratamente selezionate, ciascuna con il proprio punto di forza: programmabilità, scalabilità e pagamenti.

Il ruolo della diversificazione e del ribilanciamento

In questo modello abbiamo aggiunto un 5% di criptovalute a un portafoglio tradizionale composto al 60% da DAX e al 40% da obbligazioni. Per fare spazio alle cripto, le azioni sono state ridotte al 58% e le obbligazioni al 37%. I risultati del backtesting, basati sugli ultimi cinque anni, evidenziano due principi:

  1. Il compromesso volatilità-rendimento
    Una maggiore volatilità può massimizzare il rendimento, ma senza un ribilanciamento il portafoglio sarebbe esposto a forti cali. L’aggiunta di cripto-asset senza un ribilanciamento crea momenti di gravi perdite che, per essere recuperate, dovrebbero essere compensate da guadagni sproporzionatamente ingenti.

  2. Il ribilanciamento come controllo del rischio
    Il grafico in basso dimostra l’enorme importanza del ribilanciamento. Un ribilanciamento regolare evita che le perdite si moltiplichino e consente agli investitori di cogliere i lati positivi della volatilità. Questo vale a maggior ragione per le altcoin, che tendono a subire oscillazioni più marcate rispetto a Bitcoin.

L’impatto sulla performance delle allocazioni in criptovaluta

L’impatto di un’allocazione in criptovalute del 5% in un portafoglio tradizionale 60% DAX / 40% obbligazioni è chiaramente visibile, come mostrato dal nostro grafico in basso. In questo modello l’investimento in azioni viene diminuito al 58%, mentre in obbligazioni al 37%.

  • Miglioramento dell’indice di Sharpe: i portafogli con criptovalute, soprattutto se diversificate e non limitate ai BTC, mostrano rendimenti ponderati per il rischio più elevati.

  • Miglioramento della performance: anche una bassa esposizione alle criptovalute favorisce la crescita del portafoglio nel lungo termine.

  • Bilanciamento della volatilità: l’aggiunta di altcoin fa crescere la volatilità, ma questo effetto è attenuato dal ribilanciamento annuale.

  • Guadagni secondo l’Information Ratio: un’esposizione più bilanciata (BTC + ETH + altcoin) migliora significativamente l’efficienza del portafoglio rispetto a una strategia basata solo su BTC.

Raccomandazioni strategiche

  1. Non esporti eccessivamente alle criptovalute: anche una quota del 5%, suddivisa fra BTC, ETH, SOL e XRP, genera un rendimento superiore rispetto a un portafoglio tradizionale.

  2. Usa le altcoin per integrare, non sostituire, Bitcoin: è bene che BTC rimanga la quota di maggioranza, per fungere da stabilizzatore.

  3. Limita l’allocazione di altcoin al 25–35% dell’esposizione in criptovalute: con un’attenta distribuzione fra ETH, SOL ed XRP, le altcoin consentono di diversificare l’investimento in termini di crescita, scalabilità e pagamenti.

  4. Ricorda di ribilanciare regolarmente il portafoglio: un ribilanciamento annuo è sufficiente per consolidare il rendimento e mantenere le perdite sotto controllo.

  5. Adatta il portafoglio alla tua propensione al rischio: gli investitori più conservativi possono scegliere una composizione 70% BTC, 20% ETH, 10% altcoin. Gli investitori più aggressivi possono invece orientarsi maggiormente verso ETH e SOL.

Non sottovalutare le altcoin

Le altcoin giocano un ruolo significativo in un investimento diversificato, ma la loro natura altamente volatile esige attenzione e rigore. Se gestite con allocazioni strutturate e rispettose delle norme e ribilanciamenti periodici, possono regalare performance e rendimenti adeguati al rischio migliori rispetto a un investimento in soli Bitcoin.

Per gli investitori tedeschi e internazionali, l’esposizione alle altcoin sta diventando sempre più accessibile tramite gli ETP, che si integrano alla perfezione nei portafogli tradizionali. In un mercato maturo, la combinazione fra Bitcoin e altcoin attentamente selezionate non rappresenta solo uno strumento di diversificazione, ma anche di partecipazione nell’infrastruttura del sistema finanziario di domani.
