La domanda a cui questo ciclo sta finalmente rispondendo

Alla fine di febbraio 2026, Bitcoin ha registrato un drawdown del 50% dal picco al minimo, mentre la volatilità realizzata rimane inferiore rispetto alla fase comparabile del 2018/2022. Gli US spot Bitcoin ETF hanno visto deflussi netti per 3 miliardi di USD nelle prime otto settimane dell’anno e il totale dell’AuM degli ETP su asset digitali si attesta a 133 miliardi di USD. Il segnale è familiare: il prezzo mette alla prova la convinzione. La parte interessante è ciò che accade dopo.

Ogni fase ribassista in questo mercato rivela la stessa verità scomoda: la convinzione è facile da dichiarare e costosa da mantenere. Dal 2013 ho visto ondata dopo ondata di partecipanti arrivare con ambizione e andarsene con scuse. I progetti, le promesse, i pitch deck. Seguono sempre lo stesso arco. Ciò che cambia da un ciclo all’altro non è il modello, ma la qualità del dubbio.

Questa volta non sono l’umore o l’andamento dei prezzi a fare la differenza. Sono la composizione dei partecipanti e l’utilizzo dell’infrastruttura. I precedenti mercati ribassisti erano dominati da uno scetticismo reattivo: il prezzo scende, arrivano i titoli, e inizia il coro dei necrologi. Bitcoin cala e la narrativa si scrive da sola: l’esperimento è finito, i mercati razionali hanno parlato. Questo tipo di critica si dissolve con la stessa rapidità con cui si forma. I mercati scambiano narrative; l’infrastruttura si consolida in silenzio.

La domanda che sento oggi è migliore — e merita una risposta migliore: dopo quindici anni, il crypto ha prodotto qualcosa di realmente utile? Si sta costruendo qualcosa di concreto?

La risposta onesta si articola in due parti.

Primo: Bitcoin funziona.

Ha superato ogni stress test rilevante: tecnico, di mercato, politico e comportamentale. Quando CoinShares è entrata in questo mercato nel 2013, il valore della rete Bitcoin era più vicino a quello di una mid-cap equity che a un asset macro. Oggi viene regolarmente menzionato insieme alle riserve sovrane e alla liquidità di sistema. La volatilità è una caratteristica dei processi di monetizzazione, non una prova di fallimento tecnologico.

Secondo: gran parte di ciò che ha occupato l’ultimo ciclo non ha prodotto nulla di duraturo — gaming token, mercati NFT speculativi, “yield” loop che in realtà erano solo leva finanziaria travestita con un nuovo linguaggio. Il settore ha confuso l’ingegneria finanziaria con l’utilità e la leva con l’innovazione. I mercati prima o poi correggono entrambe. Quando tutto è in vendita e i pitch deck continuano ad arrivare, questo riflette qualcosa di reale su dove ci troviamo nel ciclo. I costruttori che contano continuano a costruire. Gli altri cercano l’uscita. In fondo, nulla è davvero cambiato dalla celebre citazione di Buffett sulla marea che si ritira.

Veniamo ora alla parte che rende il tempismo dei dubbi odierni quasi perfettamente sbagliato.

L’economia agentica non è più solo un concetto. È un’infrastruttura che si sta costruendo in tempo reale.

Stiamo passando da un internet dell’informazione a un internet delle decisioni. McKinsey — riecheggiando le proiezioni di Musk e CZ — prevede che entro il 2030 gli agenti AI possano orchestrare trilioni di dollari di commercio. Nel 2025, Visa, Mastercard, Google e Stripe hanno ciascuna lanciato framework di pagamento agentici nel giro di pochi mesi l’una dall’altra. Nel frattempo, l’economia globale resta ancorata alla domanda dei consumatori. Circa il 70% del PIL degli Stati Uniti è rappresentato dai consumi, e i pagamenti presentano ancora frizioni significative in un mondo che sta per essere definito dall’esecuzione machine-to-machine. Lascio per ora da parte il tema della privacy, ma è certamente un aspetto che dovremo considerare.

Questo crea un nuovo problema ingegneristico molto concreto: come possono i sistemi autonomi effettuare transazioni in modo economico, globale e alla velocità delle macchine?

Al centro di questo problema c’è un livello di regolamento.

Consideriamo l’aritmetica. Una commissione di 0,20 USD per l’elaborazione di una carta applicata a una micro-transazione di 0,003 USD tra due agenti AI implica un overhead di circa il 6.600%. L’infrastruttura bancaria tradizionale è stata costruita su un presupposto: un essere umano a ciascuna estremità di ogni transazione — quindi un’identità, un passaporto, un conto, una catena di approvazioni e una risoluzione delle controversie con tempi umani. Questa architettura non scala in un mondo in cui ogni persona può operare centinaia, e in futuro migliaia, di agenti autonomi che agiscono per suo conto in base alla sua reputazione (ad esempio il nuovo standard ERC8004), negoziando ed eseguendo transazioni basate sulle performance e continuamente supportate da meccanismi di escrow (come il protocollo X402 di Coinbase).

I circuiti delle carte hanno risolto il problema della fiducia tra esseri umani. La prossima economia richiede fiducia tra macchine.

La principale infrastruttura finanziaria che gestisce questo nativamente è il denaro programmabile on-chain: istantaneo, verificabile, componibile e in grado di operare senza approvazione umana a ogni passaggio. Non si tratta di un’applicazione speculativa del crypto. È un requisito strutturale dell’economia che sta emergendo, indipendentemente dal fatto che le infrastrutture di pagamento tradizionali siano pronte o meno.

Per gli investitori istituzionali, questa distinzione è cruciale. Gli asset digitali non sono più solo una scommessa direzionale sui prezzi; rappresentano sempre più un’esposizione a un insieme di rail: regolamento, mobilità del collateral e trasferimento programmabile del valore. Le stablecoin non competono con le banche; competono con la latenza. La domanda non è più se il crypto abbia un caso d’uso, ma quali settori avranno difficoltà a operare senza regolamento programmabile.

È esattamente qui che si posiziona CoinShares.

CoinShares ha operato attraverso molteplici cicli dal 2013, non cercando di indovinare quale narrativa sovraperformerà la prossima settimana, ma costruendo accesso regolamentato, product design di livello istituzionale, gestione del rischio ed expertise di liquidità attorno ai rail sottostanti. Non abbiamo bisogno che ogni token abbia successo. Abbiamo bisogno che l’infrastruttura venga utilizzata — e che sia investibile, trasparente e adeguatamente governata per il capitale professionale.

L’infrastruttura durevole raramente viene costruita durante l’euforia. Viene costruita nel dubbio, da chi resta perché comprende l’obiettivo verso cui sta lavorando. Ciò che non è cambiato è la direzione di marcia: verso un sistema finanziario più programmabile, più trasparente e più accessibile. L’economia agentica non cambia questa tesi. La accelera.

I cicli precedenti si chiedevano se Bitcoin potesse sopravvivere. Questo ciclo sta iniziando a rispondere a una domanda diversa: se la prossima economia possa funzionare in modo efficiente senza regolamento programmabile.
