Dalla disperazione all'avidità in una settimana: un rally non è un verdetto

Un mese fa questo settore leggeva necrologi. Nel 2026 oltre 100 progetti crypto hanno chiuso, presentato istanza di fallimento o sono scomparsi in modo permanente. BitMEX, BitMart e diverse altre entità hanno annunciato chiusure o procedure concorsuali nell'arco di una singola settimana, a fine luglio. Il sentiment era tra i più deboli visti da anni.

Poi il Bitcoin ha riconquistato gli 80.000 dollari per la prima volta da maggio, gli altri asset digitali lo hanno seguito, e i trader di opzioni hanno iniziato a scommettere cifre a sette zeri su un rapido movimento oltre gli 82.000 dollari. È successo tutto nell'arco di poche sedute.

Frequento i mercati da abbastanza tempo da diffidare di un passaggio così rapido dalla disperazione all'avidità.

La distinzione importante è questa: il contesto attorno agli asset digitali è cambiato in modo sostanziale. La qualità degli asset stessi no.

Ed è questo che conta.

Primo cambiamento: il quadro macro

L'inflazione è risultata più contenuta, l'occupazione più debole, e a ogni nuovo dato si è indebolito l'argomento a favore di un ulteriore inasprimento da parte della Federal Reserve. I rendimenti dei Treasury a breve scadenza sono scesi di conseguenza. La parte lunga della curva ha invece raccontato una storia diversa: i rendimenti dei Treasury trentennali hanno toccato quest'anno livelli non visti da quasi due decenni, mentre il debito federale USA ha superato i 40.000 miliardi di dollari.

In questo contesto, i riacquisti di titoli del Tesoro e il più ampio dibattito sulla gestione del mercato del debito hanno rafforzato una preoccupazione già presente sui mercati: che i vincoli fiscali stiano influenzando sempre più la politica monetaria e la gestione del debito. Questa preoccupazione ha un'espressione familiare: il cosiddetto [DOUTE:]debasement trade.

Gli investitori non devono credere che il sistema fiscale statunitense sia sull'orlo del collasso. Basta attribuire una probabilità più alta a deficit persistenti, maggiore intervento pubblico, calo di fiducia nei bilanci sovrani o futura repressione finanziaria.

In questo scenario, gli asset scarsi diventano più preziosi.

Questa settimana Stanley Druckenmiller ha esposto senza mezzi termini la tesi degli scettici sul Wall Street Journal: «I governi che difendono i prezzi contro i fondamentali perdono sempre». Più importante dei meccanismi precisi di una singola politica sui Treasury è il punto generale. Non appena i mercati ritengono che i governi siano sempre più vincolati dal costo del proprio debito, gli asset monetari non sovrani diventano più rilevanti.

Il Bitcoin ne è il beneficiario più ovvio.

È un'affermazione molto diversa dal dire che il «crypto» nel suo insieme meriti di salire.

Abbiamo costruito CoinShares attorno all'idea che il Bitcoin abbia un ruolo monetario duraturo proprio perché si colloca fuori dal sistema sovrano. Questa tesi non è diventata vera quest'estate, ma il contesto macro ha reso più semplice per un maggior numero di investitori comprenderla. I flussi istituzionali lo confermano: i prodotti di investimento in asset digitali hanno appena registrato i più forti afflussi settimanali dell'anno, sufficienti a riportare i flussi annuali in territorio positivo.

Il quadro macro non è stata l'unica causa di questo rally, ma è stato chiaramente un catalizzatore importante.

Secondo cambiamento: anche il segnale politico è cambiato

All'incontro alla Casa Bianca della scorsa settimana, il presidente Trump ha esortato il Congresso ad approvare una «versione equa» del CLARITY Act e ha dichiarato che la CFTC sta lavorando per portare Hyperliquid negli Stati Uniti «in modo pienamente conforme e legale». Diciotto mesi fa sarebbe stato quasi impensabile.

Il cambiamento importante non è semplicemente che i dirigenti del settore crypto vengano ora invitati al tavolo. È che il dibattito politico stesso sta cambiando. Diciotto mesi fa, a Washington ci si chiedeva quanto di questo settore dovesse essere spinto fuori dai confini nazionali. Oggi, sempre più spesso, ci si chiede come alcune sue parti possano essere integrate nel sistema finanziario regolamentato statunitense.

Bisogna guardare a chi siede al tavolo: questo conta.

Chi costruisce infrastrutture fa ormai parte del dibattito politico, insieme a exchange ed emittenti di token. Questo conferma una convinzione che sostengo da tempo: la parte duratura di questo settore non sarà definita semplicemente dalla speculazione sui token. Sarà definita dall'infrastruttura finanziaria che sopravvive, si integra e infine diventa normalità.

Il Bitcoin e un gruppo selezionato di reti di asset digitali vengono sempre più trattati come infrastruttura finanziaria duratura, non come un fenomeno marginale e temporaneo.

Si tratta di un vero cambio di regime.

Ciò che non è cambiato: la qualità della maggior parte del mercato

È qui che il rally diventa più difficile da interpretare. I cento e più progetti scomparsi quest'anno non sono falliti perché la Fed era troppo restrittiva. Sono falliti perché la liquidità si è esaurita, perché la sicurezza ha ceduto, perché i modelli di business non funzionavano, oppure perché non hanno mai sviluppato abbastanza utilizzo, ricavi o valore economico da sostenere le organizzazioni costruite attorno a essi.

Solo nella prima metà del 2026, gli exploit sono costati al settore oltre 1 miliardo di dollari.

Prospettive sui tassi più favorevoli non riparano nulla di tutto ciò. Né lo fa un incontro costruttivo a Washington. Eppure il comportamento che stiamo già osservando è familiare: alcuni degli asset più piccoli e meno differenziati sono di nuovo tra i più veloci a muoversi. Non è una convalida fondamentale. È liquidità. Questa distinzione conta perché sotto la parola «crypto» convivono in realtà mercati piuttosto diversi tra loro. Il Bitcoin può beneficiare direttamente delle preoccupazioni sulla credibilità monetaria e sulla sostenibilità fiscale.

Le reti e le infrastrutture con un utilizzo reale possono beneficiare di una regolamentazione più chiara, dell'adozione istituzionale e dell'integrazione nel sistema finanziario.

E poi c'è un gruppo molto più ampio di asset i cui prezzi possono salire semplicemente perché è tornata la propensione al rischio.

Queste tre cose non vanno confuse tra loro. Un rally diffuso comprime la distinzione tra qualità e speculazione. Per un certo periodo, tutto sembra funzionare. Ed è proprio in quel momento che la disciplina conta di più.

Un rally non è un verdetto

Non c'è motivo di liquidare questo movimento solo perché è avvenuto rapidamente. Il contesto macroeconomico è diventato più costruttivo. La direzione normativa è chiaramente più favorevole. La domanda istituzionale è migliorata. Sono sviluppi reali.

Ciò che merita scetticismo è l'idea che un mercato in rialzo convalidi tutto ciò che sale con lui. Non è così. Contano l'utilizzo reale, i ricavi reali, un'economia sostenibile. Nel caso del Bitcoin, conta una pretesa monetaria credibile.

Queste caratteristiche restano concentrate in una parte relativamente piccola dell'universo quotato degli asset digitali. Questa proporzione non è aumentata solo perché i prezzi lo hanno fatto.

La lezione di quest'anno non è quindi che i pessimisti avessero torto a luglio o che gli ottimisti abbiano ragione ad agosto. È che il sentiment si muove molto più rapidamente dei fondamentali. I mercati possono passare dalla disperazione all'avidità in una settimana. Le aziende, le reti e gli asset monetari non diventano buoni o cattivi alla stessa velocità. La domanda importante non è se il crypto sia tornato: a questo i mercati possono rispondere in un pomeriggio. La domanda è quali asset meritino di restare validi quando liquidità, politica e sentiment smettono di fare il lavoro al posto loro.

Gli asset che meritavano di essere posseduti lo erano già un mese fa, quando nessuno li voleva.
