Read our Ethereum guideWhat is an Ethereum ETP?
An Ethereum ETP (exchange traded product) is a security listed on a stock exchange that tracks the price of ethereum. Whether structured as an ETF, ETN or ETC, it provides regulated exposure through traditional brokerage accounts, like a share or a fund. Investors can access ethereum without the complexity of holding the asset directly.
What are crypto ETPWho can buy an Ethereum ETP in the UK?
UK retail investors have been able to buy crypto ETNs since 8 October 2025, when the FCA lifted its restriction, provided the product is admitted to trading on a UK recognised investment exchange. CoinShares Ethereum ETP is admitted to trading on the London Stock Exchange and available through major UK brokers. FAQWhere is CoinShares Ethereum ETP available in the UK?
CoinShares Ethereum ETP has been listed on the London Stock Exchange since January 2025, available in USD (ETHE) and GBP (ETHP). UK investors can access the ETP through their existing broker or investment platform.
Can I hold an Ethereum ETP in my ISA?
Not for new purchases. Since 6 April 2026, HMRC treats crypto exchange traded notes (cETNs) as qualifying investments for an Innovative Finance ISA (IFISA) only. They can no longer be bought within, or transferred into, a stocks and shares ISA.
What is the difference between Ethereum ETP and Ethereum ETN?
"Exchange traded product" is the umbrella term for exchange-listed instruments that track an asset - ETFs, ETCs and ETNs all sit beneath it. An "exchange traded note" is the sub-type structured as a debt security rather than as a fund. Every Ethereum product listed on the London Stock Exchange is structured as a debt security called cETNs (crypto ETN). An Ethereum ETP and an Ethereum ETN are therefore the same thing, described at two levels of precision.
Why should I consider exposure to Ethereum?
Ethereum is renowned for its established blockchain infrastructure, serving as a platform for diverse applications. It acts as both a foundational blockchain and a launchpad for decentralised solutions. Ethereum is the settlement layer for dozens of secondary networks (Layer 2s), making it widely used in this new financial industry’s infrastructure. Investing in Ethereum can diversify your portfolio and add volatility, meaning returns can vary significantly over time. However, past performance does not guarantee future results, and Ethereum can be highly volatile with rapid price fluctuations. Investment in one or more of the CoinShares Products may not be suitable for even a relatively experienced and affluent investor. Investments should be made on the basis of the current prospectus and the Key Information Document, which are available along with further legal documentation on this website.
