CoinShares-undersökning 2026: Vad förmögna investerare faktiskt gör med digitala tillgångar

Vi frågade investerare med minst 500 000 dollar att investera varför de innehar krypto, hur mycket av det, och vad de vill ha av sin förmögenhetsförvaltare. Spekulation stod för 9 % av de primära motiv de angav. Flera av de andra svaren motsäger vad branschen har antagit om dem.

Det finns en bekväm berättelse om förmögna människor och krypto. De skulle ha kommit sent, jagar ett pris, och lämnar när priset slutar stiga. Det är en berättelse som aldrig har behövt bevis, eftersom nästan ingen har brytt sig om att fråga de personer den beskriver.

Så vi frågade. Mellan den 11 maj och den 5 juni 2026 genomförde vi en onlineundersökning bland 2 230 investerare i sju marknader: USA, Storbritannien, Frankrike, Tyskland, Italien, Sverige och Schweiz. Varje respondent hade minst 500 000 dollar i investeringsbara tillgångar, exklusive sin bostad och eventuell annan fastighet, och urvalet delades jämnt mellan dem med 500 000 till 999 999 dollar och dem med 1 miljon dollar eller mer. Urvalen var balanserade efter kön och ålder, enkäten anpassades för varje marknad så att termer som "förmögenhetsförvaltare" hade samma betydelse lokalt, och fältarbetet genomfördes åt oss av Savanta.

Syftet var enkelt. Förra året undersökte vi 500 förmögna investerare i USA. I år ville vi ha en internationell referenspunkt: inte bara hur många förmögna investerare som innehar digitala tillgångar, utan varför de innehar dem, hur mycket de innehar, var de köper, och vad de förväntar sig av dem som förvaltar deras pengar. Här är fyra av resultaten. Resten finns i rapporten.

Spekulation är det minsta skälet någon angav

Bland dem som innehar digitala tillgångar, tillfrågade om sitt främsta motiv för att investera i dem, stod spekulation – det vill säga kortsiktiga satsningar och jakt på volatilitet – för i genomsnitt 9 % av de angivna skälen. Den översteg aldrig 11 % i någon marknad. Strategiska motiv, långsiktig kapitaltillväxt och portföljdiversifiering, stod för 40 %, mer än dubbelt så mycket som nästa kategori. Intresse för tekniken och relaterade kryptonativa skäl uppgick till 19 %. Säkring uppgick till 13 %.

Samma mönster framträder när investerare beskriver sig själva snarare än sina skäl. Av fyra erbjudna investerarprofiler var den kortsiktiga Tradern den minsta aktiva profilen i varenda marknad, med en topp på 11 % i Storbritannien och en nedgång till 3 % i Sverige.

Det spelar roll eftersom branschen tror något annat. I 2026 European Wealth Management and Digital Assets Survey som vi publicerade tillsammans med Citywire tillfrågades 261 europeiska förmögenhetsförvaltare varför de trodde att kunder tvekar inför digitala tillgångar. Det näst vanligaste svaret, angivet av 52 % av dem, var att krypto är spekulativt. Jämför det med vad investerarna i denna undersökning säger: spekulation är det minsta av de skäl de anger för att investera. De två siffrorna är inte direkt jämförbara, eftersom den ena är en andel förvaltare som nämner ett hinder och den andra är en andel motiv som anges av investerare. Det är rangordningen som är poängen. Förvaltare placerar spekulation nära toppen av vad de tror håller folk tillbaka; investerarna själva placerar den längst ner bland det som lockar dem in. Det är tydligt en oenighet om vad som faktiskt pågår.

Det är inte längre ett minoritetsbeteende

I alla sju marknader innehar mer än hälften av de förmögna investerarna digitala tillgångar: från 53 % i Sverige till omkring 70 % i USA, Storbritannien, Tyskland och Schweiz, med Frankrike på 66 % och Italien på 58 %.

Den mer talande siffran är hur mycket de innehar. Bland de investerade grupperar sig de genomsnittliga allokeringarna tätt i intervallet 12–15 %, och de gör det över marknader med mycket olika riskkulturer och regelverk. En allokering på 15 % är ungefär vad sofistikerade investerare innehar i private equity eller råvaror, tillgångsslag som tog decennier att förtjäna sin plats. Digitala tillgångar har nått en liknande vikt på under tio år, och behållit den genom en kraftig nedgång.

Bitcoin är ankaret, inte portföljen

Bitcoin innehas i genomsnitt av 80 % av förmögna investerare i digitala tillgångar, och ökar till 87 % i USA. Det innehas nästan aldrig ensamt. Sju av tio innehar bitcoin tillsammans med andra digitala tillgångar, och enbart-bitcoin-portföljer utgör i genomsnitt 9 % av investerarna, med ett spann från 5 % i USA till 15 % i Frankrike. Ethereum och stablecoins följer med 59 % respektive 57 %.

De med mest pengar är de som ber om hjälp

Detta är resultatet vi inte förväntade oss skulle vara så skevt. Över alla sju marknader erkänner 88 % av investerarna att de inte har tillräcklig kunskap för att investera i digitala tillgångar med full säkerhet. Samtidigt anser 95 % att det är viktigt att en förmögenhetsförvaltare har expertis inom digitala tillgångar i dag, och bland dem som är öppna för rådgivningstjänster i ämnet säger 98 % att de skulle betala för det.

Förmögenhetsförvaltare är, på varenda undersökt marknad, den mest betrodda källan till information om digitala tillgångar som dessa investerare har. Peer-forum och onlinegemenskaper rankas nära botten. Vad som än driver kryptointresset bland privatpersoner, så är det inte det som driver dessa investerare.

Vad den fullständiga rapporten täcker

  • Generationsdata, inklusive hur mycket mer yngre investerare allokerar, hur mycket mer de avser lägga till, och vad de skulle betala för en rådgivare som förstår tillgångsklassen
