Noder utgör kärnan i Bitcoin-nätverket, precis som i alla blockchains. De är avgörande för att säkerställa att nätverket fungerar på ett decentraliserat, säkert och tillförlitligt sätt.

Bitcoin-noder nämns redan i inledningen av den vitbok om Bitcoin som publicerades av Satoshi Nakamoto den 31 oktober 2008:

”Systemet är säkert så länge ärliga noder gemensamt kontrollerar mer processorkraft än någon samverkande grupp av angriparnoder.”

Genom att anförtro kontrollen och säkerheten av Bitcoin-nätverket åt ett stort antal oberoende nodoperatörer utspridda över hela världen, fann Nakamoto ett sätt att förhindra att någon enskild aktör tar över systemet.

Vad är en nod inom Bitcoin?

En Bitcoin-nod är en dator som deltar i Bitcoin-nätverket genom att köra Bitcoin-programvaran och ansluta till andra noder.

Det finns flera typer av Bitcoin-noder: fullständiga noder, lättviktsnoder (även kallade SPV-noder, eller Simplified Payment Verification-noder) och brytarnoder (även kallade minernoder).

Fullständiga noder är ansvariga för att verifiera och validera transaktioner och block, vilket gör dem avgörande för att upprätthålla nätverkets säkerhet och decentralisering.

De avvisar ogiltiga transaktioner som inte följer protokollreglerna och accepterar giltiga transaktioner, som de sedan vidarebefordrar till andra noder. När någon till exempel skickar Bitcoin så säkerställer fullständiga noder att avsändarens plånbok har de nödvändiga medlen och inte försöker genomföra en dubbelspendering. Varje fullständig nod lagrar hela transaktionshistoriken för Bitcoins blockchain, vilket per 2025 uppgår till 500 GB, och håller aktuell information om de senaste transaktionerna. Detta gör det möjligt för dem att validera nya transaktioner baserat på historisk data.

Lättviktsnoder laddar, å andra sidan, ner endast en del av aktuell blockchain och förlitar sig på fullständiga noder för transaktionsvalidering.

Dessutom förlitar sig Bitcoin-blockkedjan på brytarnoder för att skapa och föreslå nya block.

Blockstorlekskriget: Ett avgörande moment för Bitcoins decentralisering

Den centrala rollen för fullständiga noder blev tydligt framträdande under det ökända Block Size War (2015–2017) – ett avgörande kapitel i Bitcoins historia som underströk dess decentraliserade natur.

Konflikten handlade om ett förslag om ökad blockstorlek för Bitcoin, för att förbättra transaktionsgenomströmning och skalbarhet.

Medan idén fick stöd från stora aktörer inom industrin – inklusive miners och chefer från 58 framstående kryptoföretag som nådde ett privat avtal känt som ”New York Agreement” – mötte den starkt motstånd från den bredare gemenskapen.

En stor del av de fullständiga nodoperatörerna avvisade förslaget och vägrade att köra modifierade versioner av Bitcoin-programvaran som skulle genomföra förändringen.

Denna episod underströk vikten av fullständiga noder som slutgiltiga skiljedomare av Bitcoins regler, som försvarade protokollet mot centraliserande influenser och skyddade dess grundläggande principer. Blockstorlekskriget befäste Bitcoins decentraliserade styrningsmodell, vilket säkerställde att protokolländringar återspeglar den bredare gemenskapens vilja och stärkte nätverkets motståndskraft mot externa påtryckningar.

Fördelning av Bitcoin-noder och deras roll i censurresistens

Från och med den 5 augusti 2025 rapporterade referenssidan Bitnodes att det fanns 23 405 aktiva, nåbara Bitcoin-noder, med ett antal som fluktuerar dagligen.

Dessa var spridda över minst 181 länder – praktiskt taget hela världen, med tanke på att det finns 197 länder totalt.

USA hade överlägset flest aktiva noder, med 2 339, följt av Tyskland, Frankrike och Kanada. På stadsnivå dominerade tyska städer de fyra översta platserna, med Berlin i topp, följt av München, Hamburg och Frankfurt.

Intressant nog hade vissa länder endast en känd nod, inklusive Peru, Algeriet, Kambodja, Uzbekistan och kanske mest förvånande, El Salvador – det första landet att officiellt införa Bitcoin som lagligt betalningsmedel.

Det är dock viktigt att notera att dessa siffror sannolikt underskattar det verkliga antalet noder. Många noder kan vara privata, gömda bakom VPN eller Tor, eller vara oresponsiva, vilket innebär att de inte syns i offentliga register. På samma datum (5 augusti 2025) registrerades över 15 000 noder utan känd plats. Baserat på tidigare data är det troligt att de flesta befann sig i Brasilien, Kina, Australien eller Sydasien.

Hur kör jag en nod?

En positiv sak är att vem som helst kan köra en nod, eftersom det endast krävs en bra laptop eller stationär dator och en minimal nivå av teknisk kunskap.

Det är möjligt att komma igång för under 150 dollar eller helt enkelt använda din vanliga dator. Allt du behöver är 4 GB RAM, 500 GB lagring och, viktigast av allt, en pålitlig internetanslutning utan datatak för att komma igång.

En av de mest populära enheterna bland nodoperatörer är Raspberry Pi, som är ett av de billigaste alternativen på marknaden. Och det är inte nödvändigt att vara IT-expert, eftersom många guider finns tillgängliga online.

Tidsmässigt krävs det att noden körs minst 6 timmar per dag, även om kontinuerlig drift är det bästa.

De flesta fullständiga noder kör Bitcoin Core, den referensklient som utvecklas och underhålls av Bitcoins kärnutvecklarcommunity.

Detta hjälper inte bara till att standardisera nätverksregler, utan säkerställer också protokollkonsekvens över hela nätverket.

Slutsats

Distributionen av noder över ett blockchain-nätverk är en avgörande faktor för att säkerställa dess integritet och säkerhet.

I Bitcoin-ekosystemet är ett av de mest fruktade scenarierna en så kallad 51 %-attack – ett tillfälle då en enskild aktör får kontroll över majoriteten av nätverkets beräkningskraft eller noder.

En sådan dominans skulle ge angriparen möjlighet att censurera eller omvända transaktioner, och potentiellt skriva om delar av blockkedjans historia, vilket allvarligt skulle underminera dess trovärdighet och förtroende. Ett välfördelat nodnätverk utgör ett starkt försvar mot dessa risker. Det stärker blockkedjans motståndskraft, främjar transparens och upprätthåller decentraliserad styrning.

I slutändan är det den breda spridningen av noder som gör det möjligt för en blockchain att uppfylla sitt grundläggande löfte: ett system fritt från centraliserad kontroll.
