Bis Ende Februar 2026 hat Bitcoin einen Rückgang von 50 % vom Höchst- zum Tiefststand verzeichnet, während die realisierte Volatilität unter dem Niveau der vergleichbaren Phase 2018/2022 liegt. US-Spot-Bitcoin-ETFs verzeichneten in den ersten acht Wochen des Jahres Nettoabflüsse in Höhe von 3 Milliarden USD, und das gesamte verwaltete Vermögen (AuM) in digitalen Asset-ETPs beläuft sich auf 133 Milliarden USD. Das Signal ist vertraut: Der Preis erschüttert die Überzeugung. Interessant ist, was als Nächstes geschieht.

Jeder Abschwung in diesem Markt offenbart dieselbe unbequeme Wahrheit: Überzeugung ist leicht zu bekunden und teuer aufrechtzuerhalten. Seit 2013 habe ich Welle um Welle von Marktteilnehmern kommen sehen – mit Ambitionen – und mit Ausreden wieder gehen sehen. Die Projekte, die Versprechen, die Pitch-Decks. Sie folgen stets demselben Verlauf. Was sich von Zyklus zu Zyklus ändert, ist nicht das Muster, sondern die Qualität des Zweifels.

Was diesmal anders ist, sind nicht Stimmung oder Kursbewegungen. Es ist die Zusammensetzung der Marktteilnehmer und die Nutzung der Infrastruktur. Frühere Bärenmärkte wurden von reaktivem Skeptizismus dominiert: Der Preis fällt, die Schlagzeilen folgen, und der Chor der Nachrufe beginnt. Bitcoin fällt, und die Erzählung schreibt sich selbst: Das Experiment ist vorbei, die rationalen Märkte haben gesprochen. Diese Art von Kritik löst sich so schnell auf, wie sie entsteht. Märkte handeln Narrative; Infrastruktur wächst still und stetig.

Was ich heute höre, ist eine bessere Frage – und sie verdient eine bessere Antwort: Hat Krypto nach fünfzehn Jahren etwas wirklich Nützliches hervorgebracht? Wird tatsächlich etwas Reales aufgebaut?

Die ehrliche Antwort besteht aus zwei Teilen.

Erstens: Bitcoin funktioniert.

Es hat jeden relevanten Stresstest bestanden – technisch, marktseitig, politisch und verhaltensbezogen. Als CoinShares 2013 in diesen Markt eintrat, war der Netzwerkwert von Bitcoin eher mit einer Mid-Cap-Aktie als mit einem Makro-Asset vergleichbar. Heute wird Bitcoin regelmäßig im selben Atemzug wie staatliche Währungsreserven und Systemliquidität genannt. Volatilität ist ein Merkmal von Monetarisierungsphasen – kein Beweis für technologisches Scheitern.

Zweitens: Vieles von dem, was den letzten Zyklus prägte, hat nichts Dauerhaftes hervorgebracht – Gaming-Token, spekulative NFT-Märkte, „Yield“-Schleifen, die in Wirklichkeit lediglich neu verpackter Leverage waren. Die Branche hat Finanzengineering mit Nutzen und Hebelwirkung mit Innovation verwechselt. Die Märkte korrigieren letztlich beides. Wenn alles zum Verkauf steht und die Pitch-Decks weiterhin eintreffen, sagt das etwas Reales über unsere Position im Zyklus aus. Die relevanten Builder bauen weiter. Die anderen suchen den Ausgang. Im Grunde hat sich seit Buffetts berühmtem Zitat über die sich zurückziehende Flut wenig geändert.

Nun zu dem Punkt, der das Timing der aktuellen Zweifel nahezu perfekt falsch erscheinen lässt.

Die agentische Ökonomie ist zunehmend kein Konzept mehr. Sie ist Infrastruktur, die in Echtzeit aufgebaut wird.

Wir bewegen uns von einem Internet der Information zu einem Internet der Entscheidungen. McKinsey – im Einklang mit Prognosen von Musk und CZ – geht davon aus, dass KI-Agenten bis 2030 Handelsvolumina in Billionenhöhe orchestrieren könnten. Im Jahr 2025 führten Visa, Mastercard, Google und Stripe jeweils innerhalb weniger Monate agentische Zahlungsframeworks ein. Gleichzeitig bleibt die Weltwirtschaft in der Konsumnachfrage verankert. Rund 70 % des US-BIP entfallen auf Konsum, und Zahlungen sind weiterhin mit spürbarer Friktion verbunden – in einer Welt, die bald von Machine-to-Machine-Ausführung geprägt sein wird. Das Thema Datenschutz lasse ich an dieser Stelle außen vor, doch es ist zweifellos ein Aspekt, den wir berücksichtigen müssen.

Daraus ergibt sich ein neues, sehr praktisches technisches Problem: Wie können autonome Systeme kostengünstig, global und mit Maschinengeschwindigkeit transagieren?

Im Kern ist dies ein Problem der Abwicklungsebene.

Agenten benötigen eine Abwicklungsebene ohne vertrauenswürdigen Dritten

Betrachten wir die Mathematik. Eine Kartenbearbeitungsgebühr von 0,20 USD auf eine Mikrotransaktion von 0,003 USD zwischen zwei KI-Agenten entspricht einem Aufschlag von rund 6.600 %. Die traditionelle Bankeninfrastruktur wurde unter einer Annahme entwickelt: Am Ende jeder Transaktion steht ein Mensch – mit Identität, Ausweis, Konto, Genehmigungskette und einer Streitbeilegung im menschlichen Tempo. Diese Architektur skaliert nicht in einer Welt, in der jede Person Hunderte, später Tausende autonomer Agenten betreiben kann, die auf Basis ihrer Reputation (etwa nach dem neuen ERC8004-Standard) in ihrem Namen handeln, leistungsbasierte Transaktionen aushandeln und ausführen, kontinuierlich unterstützt durch Escrow-Mechanismen (wie das X402-Protokoll von Coinbase).

Kartennetzwerke haben Vertrauen zwischen Menschen ermöglicht. Die nächste Ökonomie erfordert Vertrauen zwischen Maschinen.

Die primäre Finanzinfrastruktur, die dies nativ ermöglicht, ist programmierbares On-Chain-Geld: unmittelbar, prüfbar, kombinierbar und in der Lage, ohne menschliche Genehmigung bei jedem Schritt zu operieren. Dies ist keine spekulative Anwendung von Krypto. Es ist eine strukturelle Notwendigkeit der entstehenden Wirtschaft – unabhängig davon, ob bestehende Zahlungsrails darauf vorbereitet sind oder nicht.

Für institutionelle Investoren ist diese Unterscheidung entscheidend. Digitale Assets sind nicht länger nur eine richtungsbezogene Wette auf den Preis; sie stellen zunehmend eine Exponierung gegenüber bestimmten Rails dar: Abwicklung, Collateral-Mobilität und programmierbare Wertübertragung. Stablecoins konkurrieren nicht mit Banken; sie konkurrieren mit Latenz. Die Frage ist nicht mehr, ob Krypto einen Anwendungsfall hat, sondern welche Branchen Schwierigkeiten haben werden, ohne programmierbare Abwicklung zu operieren.

Genau hier ist CoinShares positioniert.

Seit 2013 hat CoinShares mehrere Zyklen durchlaufen – nicht indem versucht wurde zu erraten, welches Narrativ nächste Woche outperformt, sondern durch den Aufbau regulierten Zugangs, institutioneller Produktgestaltung, Risikomanagement und Liquiditätsexpertise rund um die zugrunde liegenden Rails. Wir brauchen nicht, dass jeder Token erfolgreich ist. Wir brauchen, dass die Infrastruktur genutzt wird – und dass sie investierbar, transparent und für professionelles Kapital angemessen reguliert ist.

Dauerhafte Infrastruktur entsteht selten in Zeiten der Euphorie. Sie entsteht im Zweifel – durch diejenigen, die bleiben, weil sie verstehen, worauf sie hinarbeiten. Unverändert geblieben ist die Richtung: hin zu einem Finanzsystem, das programmierbarer, transparenter und zugänglicher ist. Die agentische Ökonomie verändert diese These nicht. Sie beschleunigt sie.

Frühere Zyklen fragten, ob Bitcoin überleben könne. Dieser Zyklus beginnt, eine andere Frage zu beantworten: Kann die nächste Wirtschaft effizient funktionieren, ohne programmierbare Abwicklung?
