Zinserhöhungswahrscheinlichkeiten sanken, langfristige Renditen erreichten ein 24-Jahres-Hoch, und Bitcoin konsolidierte sich

Bitcoin profitierte diese Woche von einem deutlichen Rückgang der kurzfristigen Zinserhöhungserwartungen. Auslöser war zunächst der Präsident der New Yorker Fed, John Williams, der argumentierte, dass die Zinserhöhung um 25 Basispunkte im September die Dringlichkeit einer weiteren Straffung verringert habe und die Fed nun Zeit habe, eingehende Daten zu bewerten. Die Märkte reagierten rasch: Die implizite Wahrscheinlichkeit einer Zinserhöhung im Oktober fiel von rund 75 % auf etwa 50 %. Nachfolgende Daten haben die Erwartungen noch weiter gesenkt, sodass die Märkte einer Oktober-Erhöhung inzwischen nur noch eine Wahrscheinlichkeit von rund 37 % beimessen.

Die Wirtschaftsdaten selbst sind uneinheitlicher geworden. Die JOLTS-Stellenangebote für August fielen auf 7,079 Millionen, unter den Erwartungen und den niedrigsten Stand seit fünf Monaten, während das Verbrauchervertrauen im September deutlich von 88,6 auf 81,9 sank – den schwächsten Stand seit 2014. Beides deutet auf eine schwächere Arbeitskräftenachfrage und zunehmenden Druck auf die Verbraucher hin. Die jüngsten PCE-Daten waren ebenfalls relativ ermutigend: Die Kerninflation stieg im Monatsvergleich um 0,2 % und im Jahresvergleich um 3,0 %, beides unter den Erwartungen, was das Argument für Geduld seitens der Fed stützte.

Das kurze Ende wurde neu bepreist, die Richtung nicht

Das Bild ist jedoch bei Weitem nicht einheitlich schwach. Das BIP des zweiten Quartals wurde auf annualisiert 2,2 % nach oben revidiert, die Konsumausgaben stiegen im August um kräftige 0,9 %, und die Erstanträge auf Arbeitslosenunterstützung fielen auf den niedrigsten Stand seit Juli. Die Fed sieht sich damit einer ungewöhnlichen Kombination aus schwächeren vorlaufenden Beschäftigungs- und Stimmungsindikatoren bei gleichzeitig relativ widerstandsfähiger zugrunde liegender Aktivität gegenüber.

Für Bitcoin war der Rückgang der Zinserwartungen unterstützend. Er unterstreicht, wie empfindlich der Vermögenswert kurzfristig weiterhin auf Geldpolitik und Dollar-Liquidität reagiert. Niedrigere erwartete Leitzinsen verringern die relative Attraktivität von Bargeld und kurzlaufenden Staatsanleihen und verbessern in der Regel das Umfeld für Bitcoin und andere liquiditätssensible Vermögenswerte.

Ungewöhnlich ist das Verhalten des Anleihemarktes. Während die Terminmärkte die Erwartungen für eine Oktober-Erhöhung deutlich zurückgefahren haben, sind die längerfristigen Renditen weiter gestiegen. Die 10-jährige Staatsanleihe erreichte kurzzeitig rund 5,3 % – den höchsten Stand seit 2002. Diese Divergenz deutet darauf hin, dass Anleger zunehmend zwischen der Fed-Politik am kurzen Ende der Kurve und Sorgen um die fiskalische Tragfähigkeit, die hohe Emissionstätigkeit des Finanzministeriums und die Laufzeitprämie am langen Ende unterscheiden.

Das könnte für Bitcoin von Bedeutung sein. Sinkende Erwartungen an den Leitzins wirken über den klassischen Liquiditätskanal unterstützend, während steigende langfristige Renditen zunehmend Sorgen über die fiskalische Tragfähigkeit der USA widerspiegeln statt lediglich eine straffere Geldpolitik. Sollte sich diese Unterscheidung weiter verschärfen, könnte Bitcoin sowohl von einem moderateren erwarteten Fed-Kurs als auch von einer erneuten Nachfrage nach nicht-souveränen Vermögenswerten profitieren.

Die Fondsflüsse zeigen jedoch, dass Anleger weiterhin vorsichtig bleiben. Wir haben seit Wochenbeginn nur rund 150 Mio. US-Dollar an Zuflüssen gesehen – ein deutlicher Rückgang gegenüber rund 3,5 Mrd. US-Dollar in der Vorwoche. Diese Veränderung sieht noch nicht nach einer Stimmungswende aus, deutet aber darauf hin, dass Anleger nach einer so starken Phase von Zuflüssen selektiver werden.

Insgesamt hat sich das makroökonomische Umfeld für Bitcoin verbessert, bleibt aber fein austariert. Schwächere Daten zu Beschäftigung, Vertrauen und Inflation haben die Notwendigkeit einer unmittelbaren weiteren Zinserhöhung verringert, während die anhaltend sehr hohen langfristigen Staatsanleiherenditen eine separate fiskalische Sorge schaffen. Beide Entwicklungen könnten sich letztlich als unterstützend für Bitcoin erweisen, wenn auch über sehr unterschiedliche Kanäle.
